29er’s Senior Citizen Ministry
Our senior citizen ministry at Worth Baptist Church, called the 29er’s, is designed to reach our older (age 55+) population. The ministry includes providing fellowship and meeting the needs of this important group of people who are our prayer warriors and givers and also providing opportunities in which they can serve.
Here is just a partial list of what this ministry entails:
MONTHLY MEETINGS - The 29ers meeting includes singing, testimonies, birthday recognitions, door prizes, and a special speaker at each meeting that challenges the seniors to keep on serving the Lord in some capacity. Following the message, we have a great meal and fellowship. In addition, on several occasions, a special speaker is brought in to speak to specific needs of our seniors, such as the aging process, medical information, fraud alert programs, etc.
OUT REACH TO SHUT-INS - Besides making weekly visits to our shut-ins, the 29er’s supply them with cookie tins and a special Christmas card each Christmas.
FIELD TRIPS - At least twice a year, field trips are taken to local areas of interest such as museums, arboretums, etc. These trips also include a time of fellowship at a local restaurant.
BRANSON TRIP - Our pastor and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. Weaver, also sponsor a trip every other year in November to Branson, Missouri, which is a highlight of the year for our senior citizens that can make the trip. It is always a great time of fun and fellowship.
SENIOR CITIZEN SUNDAY - This is held each August as we recognize our Senior Citizens. Each one of them receives a special gift that day along with a red carnation. Following the morning service a free catered meal is provided along with some fun entertainment.
SENIOR CITIZEN ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS - This is taught at the 10 a.m. hour by Dr. Weaver.
SENIOR BELL CHOIR - This is another opportunity for our senior citizen group to be involved as they perform as part of our musical program during the church services.
SENIOR CITIZEN VAN – Transportation is provided for our senior citizens on Sunday mornings who do not have another way to Sunday school and church.
